About.
MILLA MARTHA KIME
Director, Writer, ProducerMilla has made her directing debut through the short film ‘Small Flowers’, a project that embeds anecdotal and imagined story, culminating in a whispering nostalgia as the film floats through the simplicity of childhood and solitude.
Her extensive involvement in live theatre, directing and place-based creative installations/ performance has shaped her creative process, which she has articulated through the concept and production of ‘Small Flowers’.
She approaches direction and cinematography with an appreciation for the relationship of place and people, with an intimate rehearsal period on location being central to her process.
The Project.
Projects like these have historically helped young creatives to be recognised for their unwavering devotion to the arts, against all logistical odds. Director and project runner, Milla Kime, has intentionally chosen this story to tell as it enables a collaboration with individuals who are yet to showcase their talent in a professional setting. The film will contribute to growing movement of regional filmmaking in Australia. It demonstrates that poignant, festival-ready cinema can emerge from local communities beyond major cities. We hope to showcase the stories of rural NSW, whilst also giving the opportunity for young regional actors to work on a professional film set.
Created by a team of UTS film students and local emerging/ working professionals in the Hunter Region, 'Small Flowers' is a gentle new short film that pauses on the forgotten moments of youth.
